Not long after making the decision to create a self-directed residency based around the 24 bus route, an opportunity came to me in the form of a competition, a competition that was totally aligned with what I would be exploring – my existence though the 24 bus route.
The competition with Letters Live was framed as a personal letter to London, to a bus route for example. How exciting! The timing couldn’t be more perfect. I’ve never entered a competition before, least of all for a written work, but this felt so compelling, why not, what did I have to lose? Nothing. And everything to gain. It would be the perfect springboard for me to launch myself into my project, to consolidate some thoughts and feelings and to work within the tight framework of 500 words max to produce what would become my love letter to the 24 bus route.
I’d like to share my love letter with you. It didn’t win the competition, or even reach the shortlist, and after an initial disappointment on discovering that my name wasn’t on the list it really didn’t matter, because I know I have written a letter that I love and that holds enormous meaning for me.
You can read, and hear, it hear
Enjoy x

What wonderful memories! I remember the paper roll at the end with the pinky lines! Not everyone was fortunate enough to get that last bus ticket! It’s those little things in life that can bring such joy!
