Welcome to Tiger On The Rock, as much a place of heartfelt sadness as it is of sparkles and joy. It is here that you’re invited to get to know the artist Lara; hear her stories and share in some of the intimate life experiences that she so bravely lays bare.
Tiger On The Rock began in September 2023 when, after years of teaching, Lara decided to take a year’s sabbatical. She knew it was time to turn the volume down, to take life at a slower pace and to just sit with herself. As she wasn’t quite sure how to get started, she decided to frame it as a creative sabbatical. That would give her a more tangible starting point to work with. She imagined she could dedicate her time to improving her artistic skills (drawing, in particular), and then take what she had learnt back to the classroom the following academic year.
It all started out fine; Lara is incredibly motivated and self-directed, but after a few months she began to flounder. Knowing how quickly time passes, and not wanting to waste a precious moment of it, she knew she needed to have some clearer objectives. As luck would have it, Veronique, a creative mentor, came into her life and they started working regularly together. It soon became clear that Lara’s objective should not be focused on accomplishing external goals, such as drawing techniques, quite the contrary. What Lara needed to do was to go inwards and face her wounds that had had such a profound impact on her, and start living life as her authentic creative self.
Hence Tiger On The Rock was born, Lara’s unfolding love letter to her departed brother Mark, and to herself.
